Guest Post: Mary Janes and Galoshes

Hello fashionistas! I'm Taylor, I write MaryJanes and Galoshes a DIY blog for modern things with a vintage influence.  I love all things fashion and am a reader of Style Please like yourself.  So I'm excited to be here today sharing a little bit of my own style.  As a former hair stylist (and with the holiday parties approaching) I thought it would be fun to share some great holiday worthy hairstyles that are easy enough to pull of yourself.

Again, these are all within my style, modern with a vintage or bohemian influence. There are a ton of cute, fun hairstyles out there for those of you with a different style, but I hope you enjoy seeing some of the styles I may be wearing myself (with a couple short hair versions as well as not everyone has long hair as I do).

And when all else fails..... put on a really cute hat!
Some tips you will need for acomplishing these looks-
  • Tease your hair! It's important not only for adding height and volume, but it gives your bobby pins something to grab onto.  Teasing will not harm your hair, just don't over do it.
  • Hairspray is your friend! When I'm trying to do these styles on myself I tend to spray and scrunch, then pin.  The hairspray helps me hold the hair in place until I can get it all pinned and secure.
  • Day old hair styles best.  Fresh washed hair doesn't hold a style as well as day old hair. For best results skip washing your hair for a day or two before trying an updo.
  • Curl from the roots to the ends.  Most people clamp their hair into their iron at the end then wind up. You will get a better, more even curl by starting at the root and working your way down the strand.
  • Let your curls cool! Clip hem into place with a pin or just leave them be for a bit once you take them out of the iron.  Your style will last a lot longer if you allow your curls to cool before messing with them.
That's it for me today.  I had fun posting about fashion! You will normally find me posting DIY projects and vintage eye candy.  Stop over some time and say hello!
♥Taylor
